Cafe Bastille

Cafe Bastille won the Cuisine magazine Restaurant of the Year last year; it’s not hard to see why. The staff are attentive (bonus points for front of house staff who safely stow motorcycle helmets); the food is wonderfully done from an interesting menu (why yes, I will have the crepes in a orange and Grand Marnier sauce!).

There’s a huge wine list which, helpfully for people like me who know next to nothing about French wines, gives grape variety information along with the vinyard, so I can make a decent selection for myself (although from previous visits I know that the staff are drilled in the wines, anyway).

It had a nicely unhurried atmosphere for a Friday night, with surprisingly few people there; perhaps we beat the rush since it was only 6:00.
